Privacy policy
Effective 18 October 2026
The short version
- Your practice recordings and videos stay on your iPhone. We don’t upload them.
- To coach you, the words you say are sent as text to our AI provider, OpenAI. On live calls, your voice is streamed to OpenAI. You agree to this in the app before anything is sent.
- Your practice history is stored in your account so you can see your progress on any iPhone.
- No ads, no tracking across apps, no selling or sharing of your data for advertising.
- You can delete your practice history and your account from the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Clarity is a speaking coach app made by Meer Habib (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at meerhabib200@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | A random account ID created when you first open the app. When you sign in with Apple: Apple’s identifier for you, a token from Apple that lets us disconnect Clarity from your Apple ID when you delete your account, and your email address (or an Apple private relay address) and first name if you choose to share them. | To keep your practice and subscription together, on any iPhone. |
| Your answers in setup | Your goal, the situations you find hard, roughly how many meetings you have, your role, how nervous meetings make you (0–10), and the name you want the coach to use. | To build your plan and personalise the coach. |
| Practice | Transcripts (text) of your practice answers; delivery measurements such as pace, pauses, filler words and voice variety; scores and the coach’s feedback; live-call transcripts and per-turn statistics; meeting-prep notes, including a meeting’s title and date; teleprompter scripts; your before-and-after nerves ratings; breathing sessions; your reminder time and settings. | To give you feedback and show your progress. |
| Imported documents | If you import a PDF as a teleprompter script, the file is uploaded to our server, read once to pull out its words, then deleted. The words and the file’s name are kept as your script. Other kinds of file are read on your iPhone and never uploaded. | To turn your document into a script. |
| Consent records | When you agreed to AI processing and when you read the in-app disclaimer. | To show we asked, and to respect your choice. |
| Subscription | Whether Clarity Pro is active, which plan, whether it’s in a free trial or has a billing problem, and its renewal or expiry date, provided by Apple through our subscription service, RevenueCat. If we’ve given your account Clarity Pro ourselves (for example, as a creator), a record of that. We never see your payment details. | To unlock Clarity Pro and restore it on your devices. |
| Notifications | If you allow notifications: your device’s push token, its time-zone offset, when you last opened the app, your reminder time, and which kinds of notification you’ve chosen. | To send reminders and nudges at a sensible local time, and to stop once you’re back. |
| Usage limits and abuse prevention | Daily counts of coach requests, live calls and call minutes, and the times of your most recent requests. If an account is paused because of unusual activity, a record of the pause and how many times it has happened. | To keep the service fair, prevent abuse and control costs. |
| Technical data | When the app talks to our servers or downloads an update, our providers process standard connection data such as your IP address, device type and app version. | To run, secure and update the app. |
| App usage and crashes | Which screens you open and what you do in the app (for example, that you finished a practice answer or opened the subscription screen), with your account ID, a random install ID and session ID, device model, iOS and app version and build, language and time zone, and whether you’re signed in, subscribed and set up. When you subscribe: the plan, its price and currency, and the trial length. When the app hits an error: the error message and where in the code it happened. We design these events never to include what you said, typed or wrote. | To understand which features help, and to find and fix problems. |
We don’t collect your location, contacts or photos, we don’t use an advertising identifier, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. App usage and crash data is collected by our own analytics service and never shared with advertisers or data brokers.
3. Microphone, speech and camera
- Microphone. Used only while you practise (when the orb is lit), read from the teleprompter, or are on a live call.
- Recordings. Recordings of your practice answers and teleprompter reads are kept in temporary storage on your iPhone so you can play them back. Each is usually deleted when you take the next one or leave the screen. Anything left behind is cleared the next time you practise a day or more later, and all of it is deleted with the app. We don’t upload them.
- Speech to text. When you practise, your speech is turned into text by Apple’s speech recognition, on your iPhone when it can be. If on-device recognition isn’t available, Apple may process the audio on its servers, under Apple’s privacy policy.
- Live calls. Your voice is streamed to OpenAI in real time, where it is transcribed and the AI character answers you. The transcript of the conversation is saved to your account for your debrief.
- Camera. The teleprompter can show your face behind the words, as a mirror. Those frames are never stored or sent anywhere.
- Read and record. If you choose it, the teleprompter films your face and voice while you read. The video stays on your iPhone and goes to your Photos, or anywhere else, only when you save or share it. We never upload it.
- Widgets and Live Activities. If you add Clarity’s widgets, they can show your next prepped meeting’s title and the questions you might be asked on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, and a live call shows on your Lock Screen. They’re drawn on your iPhone, so anyone holding it may see them.
4. How we use it
- To provide the app: coach feedback, your plan, live calls, meeting prep, the teleprompter and your progress.
- To run your account and subscription.
- To send notifications, which you can change in the app’s Settings or turn off in iOS Settings:
- Daily practice reminders, scheduled on your iPhone.
- A trial reminder, the day before a free trial ends, scheduled on your iPhone.
- Coaching nudges, sent by our server: the morning of a meeting you’ve prepped (naming that meeting), and if you haven’t opened the app for a while. These are on unless you turn them off.
- Product news, only if you turn it on.
- To prevent abuse, keep the service secure and fix problems. If an account sends far more requests than a person could (more than 20 in two minutes), it’s paused automatically: for a day the first time, a week the second, and after that until we review it. The app tells you, and you can write to us.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to meet legal obligations.
We don’t sell your personal data, we don’t use it for advertising, and we don’t use your practice to train AI models.
5. The AI coach
The coach and live calls are powered by OpenAI. Before anything is sent, the app tells you what goes to OpenAI and asks for your agreement.
- What’s sent for feedback. The transcript of your answer and of your previous try, the question, your measurements, any meeting-prep notes the practice is for, and your name and role if you gave them.
- For meeting prep and scripts. The notes or words you enter, and a PDF you import.
- For live calls. Your voice, in real time; your name and any meeting-prep notes, so the AI character can play the meeting; and a scrambled form of your account ID that OpenAI uses to detect abuse. After the call, the full transcript is sent for your debrief.
- How OpenAI handles it. We ask OpenAI not to store coach requests where its service allows. OpenAI states that it doesn’t use data sent through its API to train its models, and that it may keep data for a limited time to detect and prevent abuse.
- Accuracy. AI feedback can be wrong. Please use your own judgement.
Please don’t enter information you aren’t allowed to share, such as your employer’s confidential details.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers that help us run Clarity, under contracts that limit how they use it:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Convex | Hosts our database and server, where your account and practice history are stored, and our analytics service. |
| OpenAI | Writes the coach’s feedback, plans and scripts, reads imported PDFs, and powers live calls. |
| RevenueCat | Checks and records your Clarity Pro subscription status. |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, speech recognition and delivering push notifications. |
| Expo | Delivers app updates, and passes our push notifications, including their text, to Apple. |
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the app, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data.
7. Where it’s stored
Our providers process data mainly in the United States. Where data moves from the UK, the EU or elsewhere, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep it
- We keep your account and practice history for as long as your account exists.
- Delete your data at any time in the app: Settings › Delete all my data. This removes your practice history, profile, scripts, notification settings and push tokens, usage counts, subscription record and account from our database, asks RevenueCat to delete its record of you, and revokes your Sign in with Apple connection. It doesn’t cancel a subscription; Apple bills that separately.
- App usage records aren’t removed by deleting your account. They stay in our analytics service, linked to an account ID that no longer exists. Write to meerhabib200@gmail.com and we’ll delete them.
- An imported PDF is deleted as soon as it’s read, and an upload that’s never read is deleted within an hour.
- Sign-in sessions expire after a year without use, and after five years at most.
- Read and record videos are deleted when you close the teleprompter, unless you saved or shared them first. Practice recordings are cleared as described in section 3.
- Our providers may keep limited records, such as OpenAI’s abuse-monitoring data, for the periods their policies describe.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. To use any of these rights, write to meerhabib200@gmail.com. We’ll answer within the time the law requires, usually within a month.
- Legal bases (UK and EU). We process your data to provide the app you asked for (contract), with your consent for AI processing, and for our legitimate interests in understanding how the app is used, keeping the service secure and preventing abuse.
- Withdrawing consent. Contact us, or delete your data in the app. The coach can’t work without AI processing, so the coaching features stop.
- California. We don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can ask to know, delete or correct the personal information we hold, and we won’t treat you differently for asking.
- Complaints. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
10. Children
Clarity isn’t meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age for consenting to data processing where you live. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Security
Data travels encrypted between the app and our servers. Your sign-in is kept in your iPhone’s Keychain, and our service keys stay on our servers, never in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and limit who can access it.
12. Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
13. Contact
